Ms. Nettie Lawrence Shanks Smith, age 90 of Maplesville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. She was born in Bibb County, Alabama on March 27, 1938; daughter of the late Coba Lawrence and the late Irene Latham Lawrence.
She was a former Clerk for the Town of Maplesville.
She is survived by her children, Judy (Bobby) O'Neal, Jenni (Steve) Davis, Janice (Ron) Smitherman, and Mike (Joyce) Shanks; Step-Daughter, Stacey Smith (Michael) Chancey; Grandchildren, Rusty (Jamie) O'Neal, Dawn (Darrell) Johnson, Paige (Steven) Gorman, Kelly Smitherman, Cassie Smitherman (Don Inda) , Renea (Brian) Gilliland, Phillip (Nicole) Davis, Brandon (Brittany) Shanks, and Jeffrey (Chelsea) Shanks; Great-Grandchildren, Jordan (Kelsey) Turner, Ansley O'Neal, Aiden O'Neal, Drew Johnson, Aaron Gorman, Eian Gorman, Everett Smitherman, Jack Inda, Dylan Inda, Brady Gilliland, Bret Gilliland, Broc Gilliland, Allie Davis, Emma Davis, Camden Davis, Bryant Shanks, Brooks Shanks, and Bradley Shanks; Siblings, Donald Lawrence, Bettye (John L.) Mitchell, Evelyn Roebuck, Barbara Rush, and Augusta Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by: Husband, Hershel Shanks; Husband, George Smith; Parents, Coba and Irene Lawrence; and Siblngs, Choba Lawrence, Branson Lawrence, Lovice Bryan, Vernell Davis, Geneva Atchison, and Inez Lane.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Maplesville Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Harris officating.
Burial will follow in the Pineview Memory Gardens in Valley Grande, AL.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.
