Wilford "Sonny" Ellis Ward

WILFORD ELLIS “SONNY” WARD, age 83 of Thorsby, passed away on August 15, 2019 with family members present. He was born in Bessemer, AL on April 9, 1936; the son of the late James Ellis Ward and the late Margie Ree Allday Ward.

He was a former Certified Public Accountant. Sonny will be remembered as a very easy-going man. He was a kind and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an avid NFL fan who loved the New Orleans Saints and attended many of their games. He also had a passion for reading newspapers; even while traveling, he would stop to purchase a newspaper from the place he was visiting.

He is survived by: His wife of 59 years, Carole Ward of Thorsby; Daughter, Michele Sanders of Knoxville, TN; Son, Darryl Ward of Orlando, FL; Son, Rodney Ward of Biloxi, MS; Grandchildren, Ellen Coffman, Christopher Ward, Beth Tuesburg, Tyler Ward, Kelsey Ennis, Emily Ward, Elise Ward, Nathan Ward, Alivia Ward and Joshua Ward; 6 Great Grandchildren; and a Sister, Martha Martin of Brandon, MS.

He is preceded in death by: Father, James Ward; Mother, Margie Ward; and Brother, James Marvin Ward.

A memorial service celebrating Sonny’s life will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 2:00pm from the Clanton Senior Center, 500 Enterprise Road, Clanton, AL.  

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

An inurnment service will be announced later.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution in Sonny’s memory to SouthernCare New Beacon Hospice in Alabaster, AL.

Final care and arrangements entrusted to the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home of Clanton, AL.
