WILLIE GENE POPWELL, SR., age 80 of Clanton, passed away on October 7, 2019 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, AL. He was born in Chilton County on December 4, 1938; the son of the late Johnnie Popwell and the late Dyzina Friday Popwell.

He was a former maintenance mechanic with Schwinn Bicycle Company.

He is survived by: Son, John C. Popwell of Clanton; Daughter, Marie E. Dennis of Bloomingdale, IL; Granddaughter, Alexandra F. Dennis of Chicago, IL; Sister, Willodean Sanders of Maplesville; Sister, Gracie Kemp of Maplesville; Brother, Julius “Shine” Popwell of Thorsby; Brother, Johnnie Popwell, Jr. of Clanton; and Brother, George “Buddy” Popwell of Jemison.

He is preceded in death by: Wife, Gail Popwell; Son, Willie Gene Popwell, Jr.; Parents, Johnnie and Dyzina Popwell; Brother, Grady Popwell; and Brother, James Popwell.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 4-8pm at the Popwell residence located at 1712 Greenwood Ave. in Clanton.
