ARTHUR ELBERT HOYT, III, age 77 of Clanton, passed away on March 2, 2025 at his residence following a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Presque Isle, ME on March 6, 1947; the son of the late Arthur Elbert Hoyt, Jr. and the late Ruth Dodd Hoyt.
He graduated from the University of Maine and then coached sports and taught math at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, FL. He later began a career in insurance sales and financial planning, earning his CLU and CHFC designations. He last worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company until retirement.
Art was a talented basketball player and coached many throughout the years. His first love was the Bible and discipling men, and he vigorously pursued this throughout the years.
He is survived by: Wife of 47 years, Sue Anne Hoyt; Stepchildren, Bryan Winton, Kelly Winton, and Graham Winton; Son-in-Law, Charlie Humber; Sisters, Liza Hoyt and Miriam Gregg; Sister-in-Law, Patty Drake; and many beloved nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Special relationships were with his kindred spirit granddaughter, Cara Winton, and with Graham Winton, his stepson and loving caretaker in the final months of his illness.
His family is grieving the loss of his love and leadership, but we rejoice that he is in the presence of Jesus. Art was a member of Grace Fellowship Church.
A private family interment will be held in Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton, AL.
A public memorial service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 7:00pm from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Corley officiating.
