Betty Jones Obituary

Betty L. Jones stepped into the presence of her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 28,2025 at 11:00AM in Verbena, AL.

She was born on November 5, 1933, to Jack and Ethel Litaker (grandparents: John & Romie Cooper) in Cooper, AL.

Betty married Hilton Jones on September 27, 1950; they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in 2000 before his death in 2001.

As a teen, Betty felt a call to missions, but after her marriage she found her mission field wherever she was, by faithfully supporting her church, including missions. She attended Chestnut Creek Baptist Church in youth and later in life. While living in Birmingham, Alabama she attended West End Baptist Church where she served on staff as Food Service Admin for many years. She claimed their ladies "fried a boatload of chicken dinners to raise money for missions, etc." Betty practiced hospitality by opening her home to her children's friends. Charles Joiner and Shirley Fortunis, among others, became honorary family members through her mentoring and nurturing love. She worked at the Senior's Center for Aging in Clanton, Alabama for several years. For the last 30 years, she attended Verbena Baptist, where she and Beverly Wingard organized a ministry of Meals to Shut-ins and others in the community. They, and many others, cooked monthly and delivered hearty meals with a word of encouragement. Their ministry received a certificate of Proclamation of Community Service from the State of Alabama. Betty embodied the strong woman of noble character in Proverbs 31. She was a woman of faith and prayer; her legacy of love, devotion and service for her family, church and friends follows her.

Surviving relatives include her son, Glenn Hilton Jones (Myra), her daughter, Gloria Thrasher (Kenneth, deceased), and daughter, Janice Thacker (John). She was blessed with five grandchildren: Stacey Jones Bowen (Shane), Katherine Thrasher Taunton (David), Stephanie Jones Cholewinski (William), Alex Thacker and Dustin Thacker; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also, her sister, Billie Bates (John Ed, deceased).

A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM at Chestnut Creek Baptist Cemetery in Verbena, AL, with Rev. James Majerik officiating.  There will be no visitation.

Family request in lieu of flowers, make memorial contributions to Cooper Cemetery Fund at 12050 County Road 24 Verbena, AL 36091 or The Gideons International. She believed the gift of Bibles blessed others long after flowers fade.

Final Care and Arrangements entrusted to the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home of Clanton, Alabama
