Betty Marie (Bates) Minton

BETTY MARIE (BATES) MINTON, age 81 of Bessemer, passed away on September 3, 2020 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, AL. She was born in Cullman, AL on July 15, 1939; the daughter of the late Horace Dewey Bates and the late Flossie Bridgeman Bates.

Betty’s family heritage was Cherokee on her mother’s side and Cherokee/Irish on her father’s side. She was a proud member of the Echota Tribe of Alabama. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She came from a family of 8, with 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Raised in the south, she called Alabama home all her life. Once you met her it would not take long for you to find out what she cherished most in life. She loved her kids but lived for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved going to visit her grandsons in Florida and going to the beach with them. Bragging on them delighted her. She also loved going to a softball field to watch her granddaughters play. There was never any doubt who she was there to see, she was always loud and proud to holler and cheer them on.

She had a way of getting you to open up and talk to her about anything. Kindhearted when she needed or wanted to be; but if she ever told you to do something you knew she meant business. She was always there if you needed advice and always had an ear to listen to whatever was bothering you! She will be missed by so many, but never to be forgotten as she will remain in our hearts FOREVER!

She is survived by: Son, Jerome C. (Julie) Wooten; Son, Dennis Wayne Wooten; Daughter, Darlene Wooten Paschal; Granddaughter, Jennifer Marie (Trent) Smith;  Granddaughters, Ashlyn and Autumn Malinovsky; Grandsons: Cody Wooten, Nicholas Wooten, and Sage Wooten; Great-Granddaughter, Tesslyn Marie Smith; Sister, Louise Marks; Sister, Ruth Bates Brown; Brother, Horace (Lucky) Bates; Brother, David Earl Bates; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by: Husband, Robert Allen Minton; Granddaughter, Jessica Lauren Paschal; Father, Horace Dewey Bates; Mother, Flossie Bridgeman Bates; Sister, Dolly Smitherman; and Sister, Jo Annie Watkins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 2:00pm from the Shannon Nazarene Church located at 1478 Womack Road Bessemer, AL 35022 with Bobby Hill officiating.
