Betty Joyce (Davis) Ploss

BETTY JOYCE (DAVIS) PLOSS, age 85, of Clanton, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 2, 2025. She was born on March 21, 1940, in Chilton County, Alabama, to the late Elzie Arvest Davis and Ruthie Nell (Hayes) Davis.

Betty was a kind, loving, and strong-willed woman who cherished her family deeply. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time outdoors, traveling with loved ones, and sharing home-cooked meals. Her homemade biscuits were unmatched, and her love for fishing was only rivaled by her passion for creativity. She was a talented artist, an eye for home décor, and had a flair for nails and makeup.

Rooted in her faith, Betty was a devoted member of the Clanton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her spiritual strength was a guiding light in her life and to those who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Tim) Tuell of Clanton; her son, Lester (Loretta) Burkes of McCool, MS; granddaughters, Heather (Jacob) Thomas of Billingsley, and Megan Barnes of McCool, MS; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Alexandria Jade Benson of McCool, MS.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Lester Earl Burkes; her parents; sisters, Jenelle Cleckler and Mavis Cleckler; and brothers, Roger Davis, Leo Davis, and Clayton Davis.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Betty will be remembered for her strength, warmth, creativity, and the love she poured into her family and faith.
