Billy Gene Davenport

March 1, 1929 ~ September 13, 2020 (age 91)



BILLY GENE DAVENPORT, 91, of Thorsby passed away peacefully on September 13, 2020.

He was born March 1, 1929 in Thorsby, AL, son of Fuller Eugene Davenport and Ivy Lester Martin Davenport.

He married Jane Barham on August 11, 1952. He graduated from Thorsby Institute and Auburn University. He served in the United States Air Force and worked for over 30 years with Rust Engineering in Birmingham. He also taught building trades for the Chilton County school system.

He was active in church leadership at Thorsby First Baptist Church for most of his life. He served as church deacon, and taught men’s Bible study for many years. He was loved by his entire class. He was passionate about all areas of Christian evangelism and served in Gideon’s International for many years.

Surviving him is his wife of 68 years, Jane; Son, Kirk (Joy) Davenport of Birmingham; Daughter, Cheryl Davenport (Bill) Naugher of Birmingham; and grandchildren: Chris Davenport, Will Davenport, Kirk (Rachel) Naugher, and Hannah Naugher.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Warren Davenport.

In accordance with recommendations to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, a drive thru visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 11:00am until Noon underneath the side portico of the Thorsby First Baptist Church.

A private family interment will be held in the Thorsby Memorial Cemetery in Thorsby, AL.

The interment will be streamed on the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home Facebook page for the public.
