CAROLYN J. (DAVENPORT) PROKOPYK, age 63, passed away at her Summer Time Dream Home outside of Clanton on January 31, 2025 after a two year illness.  A celebration of life will be held at The Back Forty Event Center located at 611 County Road 448 Clanton, 35046 on February 8, 2025. Receiving family and friends at 10 am, Followed by a Celebration of Life at 11am where you can share your favorite recipe (optional) and tell a story about Carolyn.

Carolyn was born on July 20,1961, the daughter of the late Andrew J. Davenport and late Evelyn Davenport in rural Maplesville, AL.

Carolyn attended Maplesville schools, joined the Alabama National Guard to pay for college, attended boot camp in South Carolina and later started college ROTC at Auburn where she received an Agriculture degree.2nd Lieutenant Davenport then became an electronic communications signal officer. Carolyn completed Airborne parachute school at Ft. Benning, GA prior to assignment at Ft, Brag, NC and later became a parachute senior jump master.Captain Davenports contract with the Army ended and she married William Prokopyk, became carrier military wife and mother of two, moving to Ft. Mead, MD, West Point, NY and Bismarck, ND.

When sons William and Andy were school age, Carolyn received a bachelors in nursing degree at The University of Mary in Bismarck. After working critical care ICU for three years, she returned to the Army and attended Mt. Marty College in South Dakota and received a Masters Degree in Nurse Anesthetist.

Carolyn married Steve Bittermann and they moved to a much warmer Clanton where she worked for Dr. Gene Gordon at the old Clanton hospital for a few years, then at Coosa Valley Medical Center Sylacauga, lastly at Ascension Hospital Clanton until health concerns forced her to retire. Carolyn also performed Army Reserve assignments in military hospitals at Ft. Knox, Ft. Polk, Ft. Gordon, Ft, Benning and Landstuhl AFB Germany.

Carolyn loved to keep busy by making doilies, tatting, sewing, making hand stitched quilts and cooked a variety of food that everyone will miss, especially the fried pies. She also loved indoor plants and yard work.

Surviving are her sons William Jr. and Andrew, former husband William and current husband Steve Bittermann, Sisters Peggy Czer, Rebekah (Ricky) Arrington, Patsey Ratlif, brother Randy (Lithia) Davenport, brother-in-law Kurt Bittermann.
