Cathey Sue (Wells) Smith

CATHEY SUE (WELLS) SMITH, age 74, of Shelby, passed away on July 20, 2025, at Baptist Health-Shelby Hospital in Alabaster, AL. She was born in Shelby on February 13, 1951, the daughter of the late Lewis Walter Wells and the late Roberta Littlefield Wells.

Cathey was a former pattern changer at the Elastic Corporation in Columbiana, where she worked for several years. She was known for her outgoing personality and cheerful spirit. A naturally joyful soul, she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved. She had a deep love for her family and thrived in social settings, often being the life of the gathering.

In her leisure time, Cathey enjoyed reading—especially books borrowed from her local library—and found great joy in crocheting. She was a woman of warmth, humor, and heartfelt connection.

She is survived by her sons, David Eugene Roberson and Frankie L. Roberson, both of Shelby; grandchildren, Emily Roberson of Pell City, Sara Roberson of Shelby, and Gaige Roberson of Shelby; great-grandchildren, Julius Roberson, Amelia Roberson, and Arlo Jordan; and her sister, Marie (John) Davis of Shelby.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donny Smith.

A visitation only will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton, AL.

Interment will follow in the Old Shelby Cemetery in Shelby, AL.
