Cecil "Alton" Leroy Carlee

RET. SENIOR CHIEF USN CECIL LEROY “ALTON” CARLEE, age 84 of Clanton and longtime resident of Lawley, peacefully transitioned from this life on November 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bibb County on April 15, 1940; the son of the late Cecil Carlee and the late Louise Epperson Carlee.

Alton joined the United States Navy in 1959 at the age of 18. His 20 years of honorable service would include service during both the Vietnam Conflict and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He also served as a top gun instructor.

After retirement he moved back to Alabama where he would raise his four children. He also loved to farm and was known for breeding black/tan coonhounds. He selflessly served his community for over 45 years in various capacities. His passing marks the end of an era and leaves holes in the hearts of all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Daughter, Cynthia (Trent) Martin of Clanton; 11 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren with one on the way; Sister, Nell Latham of Lawley; Sister, Carolyn Scott of Jemison; Brother, Walter “Buddy” Carlee of Lawley; Brother, Chester “Shorty” Carlee of Lawley; Brother, Eugene Carlee of Lawley; Brother, Bill Carlee of Centreville; Sister, Weida Martin of Lawley; Brother, Pat Carlee of Lawley; and Brother, Phil Griffin of Valley Grande.

He is preceded in death by: Wife, Barbara Ann Carlee; Wife, Lou Ellen Martin-Carlee; Son, Jeffrey Wade Carlee; Daughter, Rebecca Leah Hubbard; Son, Matthew Alton Carlee; Grandson, Jeffrey Wade Carlee, Jr.; Great Granddaughter, Kera Grace Mills; Parents, Cecil and Louise Carlee; Sister, Edna Sue Jackson; and Sister, Cecil Ann Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00am from Shady Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Carter and Rev. Kirk Smith officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery in Randolph, AL.
