Cherlyn Rae (Naylor) Brown

Mrs. Cherlyn Rae Naylor Brown passed away in UAB Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 5:15 AM after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 51 years old.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 10:00am from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton, AL with Rev. Josh Howell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:00am-10:00am.

Burial will be at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.

Mrs. Brown was born on August 17, 1972 in Dale County, Alabama. She loved her Lord even when she didn’t understand why she was suffering. She was a member of Lake Hills Community Church. She loved her pastor and her church family and loved to serve as a greeter or encourager, even from her wheelchair. Her smile greeted everyone with love and acceptance.

Her greatest passion was serving and doing acts of kindness for others. She often heard God calling her to stop and pray for someone she felt was sick or hurting. She spent the last year of her battle making “comfort bags” to take to the infusion center as she went for treatment. She quickly earned the nickname “Sweet Bag Lady”. After her leg was amputated, she joined several amputee support groups to give and gain encouragement to and from others who had lost limbs to cancer. She loved her Jeep and camping. She especially loved spending time with her family.

She leaves behind her husband of 24 years and the love of her life, Matthew Brown, and their two sons Brennen (Madison) Brown and Chandler Brown. She is also survived by one brother Allen (Donna) Naylor; sister-in-law Carianne (Troy) Stinson; father and mother-in-law Kerry and Faye Brown; four nephews: Aaron (Shevonne) Meeks, Josh Meeks, Benjamin Stinson and Peter Stinson; three nieces: Candace Meeks, Emily Stinson and Norah Stinson; two great nieces and one great nephew: Katie, Bentleigh, and Brantlee Meeks.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Naylor, her father, Wayne Naylor and Stepmother, Sandra Naylor.
