Christopher Duane Ward

CHRISTOPHER DUANE WARD, age 58 of Clanton, passed away on August 27, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Chilton County on March 20, 1965; the son of Clarence Ward and Susie R. Williams.

Chris began his career in fire service as a volunteer at Union Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He would go on to have a 28-year career with the Pelham Fire Department where he retired in 2013 as Captain. Chris also served as an instructor with the Alabama Fire College. He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon as well as on several church committees. He was also a member of the Faith Riders motorcycle ministry. He enjoyed traveling and fishing in his spare time and in his retirement.

He is survived by: Wife, Dawn Ward of Clanton; Daughter, Ashley Ward of Jemison; Mother, Susie R. (Jim) Williams of Clanton; Father, Clarence (Sharon) Ward of Clanton; Sister, Layle W. (Brian) Vinzant of Clanton; Stepson, Deric (Courtney) Elder of Opelika; Stepson, Chad (Mandy) Elder of Cragford; Stepson, Brett (Kortney) Elder of Jacksons Gap; Granddaughters: Aubrie Underwood, Ryleigh Underwood, Kamreigh Smitherman, and Enzly Elder; and Grandsons: Lane Elder, Ryder Elder, Reed Elder, and Kashton Elder.

He is preceded in death by: Maternal Grandparents, Euell and Gurtys Robinson; Paternal Grandparents, Clarence Emile and Eloise Burch Ward; Cousin, Randy Cole; Cousin, James Billingsley; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 6-8pm at Mineral Springs Baptist Church located at 8316 Co. Rd. 51 Clanton, AL 35046.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11:00am from Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Green officiating.

Burial with firefighter honors will follow in the Mineral Springs Baptist Cemetery in Clanton, AL.
