Clydia Mae (Chattman) Varner

CLYDIA MAE (CHATTMAN) VARNER, age 89 of Clanton, gained her wings at 12:09pm on December 16, 2025 at UAB-St. Vincent Chilton Hospital in Clanton, AL. She was born in Chilton County on February 28, 1936; the daughter of the late Howard Chattman and the late Mattie Floyd Abercrombie.

She confessed Christ at an early age and united with Hopewell Baptist Church in Clanton where she remained until death.

She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 Daughters, Earnestine Varner and Veronica Perkins; 4 Sons: Leroy Varner, Earneshay Varner, Khabir Varner, and Deferib Varner; Son-inlaw, Nathan Perkins all of Clanton, AL; 1 God Daughter, Theresa (Larry) Sailes of alabaster; 5 God Sons: Dennis Laister, John Johnson, Douglas Simon, Ellis (Barbara) McMillian, Roger Simon, and Lemie (Connie) Allen; 31 Grandchildren; 44 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandson, Silas Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 5-7pm at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 2:00pm from Hopewell Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Bailey, Pastor Ray Mitchell, and Bishop Larry Sailes officiating.

Mrs. Varner will be in state one hour prior to the service at the church.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, and granddaughters will serve as flower bearers.

Burial will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Clanton, AL.

Repass will follow at the American Legion located at 510 English Street in Clanton.
