Cora Mae (Cornelius) Smith

CORA MAE (CORNELIUS) SMITH, age 87 of Thorsby, passed away on September 12, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Oneonta, AL on September 14, 1933; the daughter of the late Jessie Eugene Cornelius and the late Vollie Jane Holland Cornelius.

She was a former lead lady with Amerex. She was a member of the Calvary’s Hill Church of God in Jemison. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed listening to gospel music. She will be remembered as a good mother to her children and the love she had for her entire family. She loved cooking for her family, and was known to have the best biscuits around.

She is survived by: Daughter, Donna Jean (Larry) Cleckley of Clanton; Daughter, Denise Scott of Jemison; Son, Dennis Eugene (Donna) Smith of Vida, TX; Daughter, Deborah Marie (Derell) Jones of Thorsby; 16 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great Grandchildren; Sister, Clara Faye Galloway of North Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by: Husband, Emmett E. Smith; Son, Dewayne Smith; Grandson, Michael Scott; Son-in-Law, Rev. Willard Scott; Parents, Jessie and Vollie Cornelius; and Brothers: Lee Cornelius, Marvin Cornelius, and Alton Cornelius.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 from 5-7pm at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00am from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton with Rev. Keith Scott and Rev. Benson Farris officiating.

Burial will follow in the Union Grove Community Cemetery in Jemison, AL.
