CORA ANNETTE (EASTERLING) DEVAUGHN, age 79 of Wetumpka, passed away on February 21, 2024 at Elmore Community Hospital in Wetumpka, AL. She was born in Chilton County on April 1, 1944; the daughter of the late Buster and Mittelean Barrett Johnson.
Annette honorably served her country in the United States Air Force from which she retired after service during both Desert Storm and Desert Shield. She was the first female to fly an air evac flight during her time of service. She would go on to retire from the United States Postal Service in Wetumpka. She was a founding member of the Search and Rescue of Elmore County. She went on to retire again as director of Elmore County E-911.
Over the years Annette through her various civic and business dealings assisted many people throughout Elmore County. She owned several local businesses over the years, including DeVaughn Realty for over 20 years, Dusty’s Diner in Slapout, and Lakeview Marina on Lake Jordan in Holtville.
She is survived by: Son, Tony Lynn (Shelley) Baker of Elmore; Son, Barry Phillip (Lynn) DeVaughn of Wetumpka; Son, Dustin Wayne (Amanda) DeVaughn of Wetumpka; 12 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; and Brother, Oscar Easterling of Wetumpka.
She is preceded in death by: Daughter, Bridgett Lynette Baker; Parents, Buster and Mittelean Johnson; Sister, Agnes Baker; and Sister, Laura Franklin.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 2:00pm from Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Deatsville, AL with Rev. Gene DeVaughn officiating.
Visitation will be held from 12:30pm until service time at the church.
Burial will follow in the Coosa River Cemetery in Deatsville, AL.
