David Ray Brasher, Sr.

DAVID RAY BRASHER, SR., age 58, of Shelby, Alabama, passed away on June 6, 2025, at Baptist Health - Shelby Hospital in Alabaster.

Born on June 23, 1966, in Birmingham, David was the son of the late Charles Brasher and the late Elizabeth Woods. A true country boy through and through, David spent many years working in the log woods, where he operated heavy equipment with the same steady hand and determination that guided his life.

He was known for being outgoing and friendly, always quick with a story or a laugh. David felt most at home outdoors — whether he was in a deer stand at sunrise or casting a line in a quiet pond, the woods and waters called to him. Hunting and fishing weren’t just pastimes to him; they were a way of life.

David leaves behind his loving wife, Denyse Brasher of Shelby; his sons, Zachary Kemp of Arab and DJ Brasher of Harpersville; and his cherished grandsons, Hunner Fisher Kemp and Ryker Lane Kemp. He is also survived by his siblings: Larry (Julia) Brasher of Clanton, Daniel Brasher of Harpersville, Michael (Margie) Thomas of Chelsea, Tammy Brasher of Jemison, Nancy (Randy) Robinson of Andalusia, Roxanne (Mark) Brasher of Wilsonville, and Deborah Woods of Gulf Shores — along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Nick Wells officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the New Hope Community Cemetery in Jemison, Alabama.

David’s life was one of hard work, deep roots, and a love for the simple things. His memory will live on in the woods he walked, the waters he fished, and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
