Obituary

DAVID N. “BEAR” GALLET, age 78 of Jemison, reached his final destination on August 11, 2023. He was the first-born son of the late Ovie and Beatrice Gallet and big brother to the late Norman “Bud” Gallet of Billerica, Massachusetts.

After graduating high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force where he selflessly and fiercely served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, which led to an intolerance of snow and ice, bringing him to Alabama. Here he continued his career as an auto, diesel, and equipment mechanic, taking time to train upcoming mechanics and sharing his knowledge with many others. He also met his best friend, one true love, married, and raised a strong family.

He is survived by: Daughter, Amy (Rodney) Jones; Daughter, Rebecca Wyatt; Daughter-in-Love, Rita W. (Stuart) Bassett; Grandsons: Adam Gallet, Joshua (Kayla) Gallet, Mathew Skyy Gallet, and Tanner (Maddy) Jones; Granddaughter, Ava C. Jones; and multiple great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by: Wife, Elizabeth M. Gallet; Son, Kenneth W. Gallet; Parents, Ovie and Beatrice Gallet; Brother, Norman Gallet; and many brothers and sisters in arms.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 3:00pm from Sunshine Assembly of God Church (2520 Co. Rd. 39 Clanton, AL 35046) with Rev. Jeremy Davis and fellow Vietnam veteran Rev. Arthur Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

The family request casual attire and no florals. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bill Nichols State Veteran Home Benevolent Fund in Alexander City, AL or to any other non-profit veteran organization.
