DONALD “BERT” THAXTON, age 86 of Jemison passed away on May 18, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Arnoldsville, Georgia on May 13, 1936; the son of the late Henry Thaxton and the late Sallie Hansford Thaxton.
After serving in the army, Bert returned home from Germany to marry his sweetheart Frances Fields in 1958. In 1968 they moved to Alabama to a community called Bluff Park in Hoover with their son Bradley and daughter Karla. His time away from work was devoted to his family. He and Frances spent a lot of time camping and skiing on Lay Lake with their children and friends. Bert was active in Boy Scouts with Bradley and also coached Karla’s softball team. Bert worked with the phone company as an electrical engineer until his retirement. He had dreamed as a young man of building a home on the lake, which he and Frances did after his retirement.
Bert was also a devoted Christian man as well as a family man. He was very active in his local church, Union Grove Baptist Church. His life exemplified God not only in his words but also in his actions. He loved walking outdoors and enjoying God’s creations. Anyone that met Bert knew he was a child of God by the way he lived his life.
