Elaine (Davenport) Wagoner

DORIS ELAINE (DAVENPORT) WAGONER, age 85, of Jemison, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Chilton County on December 6, 1939, the daughter of the late James A. Davenport and the late Frances Gore Davenport.

Elaine devoted many years of service to the Chilton County Circuit Clerk’s Office as a court specialist, working faithfully under three different administrations. She was widely known and deeply loved for her warmth, her hospitality, and her gift in the kitchen—especially her homemade sourdough bread. Her yard bloomed with beautiful flowers, a reflection of her care and love for beauty in all forms.

A devoted Christian, Elaine was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Jemison, where she served for many years as both church pianist and church clerk. Her steady presence, musical talent, and servant’s heart touched many lives within her church family and beyond.

She is survived by her loving husband, Marcell Wagoner; her son, Keith (Becky) Wagoner; her daughter, Marlaine (Jimmy) Norman; her grandchildren, Kevin (Diana) Wagoner and Heather (Koby) Culpepper; great-grandchildren, Asa Wagoner, Bradley McClain, and Eva Culpepper; and sisters-in-law, Fran Davenport and Sandy Davenport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Frances Davenport; her brothers, J.C. Davenport, Kenneth Davenport, Donald Davenport, and an infant brother; and her sister-in-law, Jane Davenport.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Jemison, with Rev. Cary Waldrop and Rev. Justin Nelson officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Elaine’s memory.
