ANNIE FAYE (RAY) SMITHERMAN, age 73 of Clanton, passed away peacefully at her residence on August 5, 2025. She was born in Chilton County on August 9, 1951, the daughter of the late Henry Ray and the late Annie Elizabeth Noah Ray.
Faye was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and a faithful servant of the Lord. As the beloved wife of Rev. Kelvin Smitherman, she stood steadfastly by his side in ministry, faithfully serving the Lord and their church family at New Hope Baptist Church in Jemison—also known as the Old Smith Schoolhouse. Her gentle spirit and unwavering faith touched countless lives throughout the years.
She loved her family deeply and took great joy in spending time with them. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the sounds of southern gospel music, which she so dearly loved. Whether caring for her loved ones or supporting her church family, Faye lived a life marked by humility, grace, and compassion.
She is survived by her loving husband of many years, Rev. Kelvin Smitherman of Clanton; her daughter, Meressa Ann Smitherman of Clanton; her son, Kerry Dale (Kimberly) Smitherman of Clanton; her grandchildren, Wesley Drew (Linsey) Smitherman and Whitney Nicole Smitherman, all of Clanton; her great-granddaughter, Melanie Dru Smitherman; and her brother, Bobby (Mary Sue) Ray of Jemison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Noah Ray; her siblings, Willie C. Ray, Jessie Mae Martin, S.C. Ray, and Willa Dean Moore.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Jemison, with Rev. Jeff Mims officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow in the New Hope Community Cemetery in Jemison, Alabama.
