FRANKLIN LUCAS, age 88 of Montevallo, passed away on November 1, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Chilton County on May 30, 1933; the son of the late T.L. Lucas and the late Grace Nix Lucas.
Franklin served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Shelby County Board of Education as a bus driver. He was a life-long member of the Enon Baptist Church in Montevallo where he served in many capacities including from the nursery up to the cemetery committee. He was active in the church’s annual fall festival where he provided a hayride for many years.
He enjoyed spending time on his beloved farm where he had a passion for horses and spending time with his grandchildren. He was their beloved “PawPaw” and was also that to many children over the years. He was a farmer who loved to work the land, care for his horses, and cherish time with his family.
He is survived by: Jo Lucas of Montevallo; Daughter, Bridget (John) Hand of Jemison; Son, Randy (Ann) Lucas of Prattville; Stepson, Shannon (Shelley) Blackburn of Calera; 7 Grandchildren: Amanda, Emily, Casey, Catherine, Hunter, Grady, and Luke; and 3 Great Grandchildren: Mason, Evelyn, and Molly.
He is preceded in death by: Wife, Gail Lucas; Parents, T.L. & Grace Lucas; and Siblings: Gladys Jones, Clarice Smith, Wilma Scott, Frances Nabors, Wesley Junior “Duck” Lucas, Edna Curry, Lillian Crumpton, Nannie Amos, Mathis Lucas, and Nell Hamrick.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11:00am from the Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Traywick officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial with military honors will follow in the Enon Baptist Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
