Larry Gilbert “Gil” Burcham, age 77 of Jemison, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 7, 2026. Born in Lexington, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Joseph Burcham and the late Jennie Gilbert Burcham.
Gil honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, carrying throughout his life the values of duty, loyalty, and quiet strength. Following his military service, he built a respected career as a millwright with ABC Rail. After retirement, his hardworking spirit and love for people led him to own and operate Gil’s Wholesale, where he specialized in tire repair products and formed countless friendships along the way.
Gil never met a stranger. He loved life on the open road and was happiest behind the wheel, often choosing the scenic route simply for the joy of the journey. Whether delivering campers and vehicles for dealerships or sitting around a table at Jack’s or Main Street Cafe in Clanton, Gil treasured fellowship and conversation. He was known for sharing stories, laughter, wisdom, and for helping solve the world’s problems one cup of coffee at a time.
A faithful and devoted member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, Gil quietly served wherever there was a need. He faithfully worked behind the scenes in countless ways — cooking breakfast with the Brotherhood, where many affectionately knew him as the “Grit Man” for his famous grits, serving on church security, and supporting the ministries of the church with humility and dedication. As a member of the Mineral Springs Baptist Church Faith Riders, he deeply enjoyed traveling, serving, and fellowshipping with dear friends who shared his love for faith and the open road.
Above all else, Gil will be remembered for the deep love he had for his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud daddy, and a loving Pop who never stopped supporting and encouraging those he loved. His steady presence, generous heart, and unwavering faith left a lasting mark not only on his family, but on his church and community as well. He was truly a pillar to many and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Littlefield Burcham; son, Wade Burcham; daughter, Lori (Michael) Laxson; grandsons, Aaron Burcham and Isaac Burcham; granddaughters, Laurel Burcham and Olivia Burcham; brother, Paul Burcham; sisters, Sylvia Burcham Douglass and Colleen Burcham; along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jennie Burcham.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Green officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in Mineral Springs Baptist Cemetery in Clanton, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Gil’s memory to the Mineral Springs Baptist Church Faith Riders Ministry.
The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to Southern Care Hospice of Clanton for the compassionate care shown to Gil during the past several weeks.
