Henry Richard Hughes

HENRY RICHARD HUGHES, age 77, of Montevallo, AL,  passed away on October 27, 2025, at Baptist Health Shelby Hospital in Alabaster, AL.  He was born November 25, 1947, the son of the late William Chessley and Mary Dorothy Hughes.

Richard was a "jack-of-all-trades".  He loved to "fix' things.  He was a mechanic, scrap hauler, and built many things.  He loved life, loved to laugh, and tell jokes.  Music was his passion and  he loved to sing around the house.  He loved eating ice cream and had to have it every day.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Edith Carol Hughes; Daughter, Tonnia (Ronald) Spigener of Vida, AL; Son, Samuel Rick (Richelle) Hughes of Jemison, AL; Grandchildren, Ethan Hughes, of Jemison, AL, and  Ryan Spigener, of Vida, AL; Brother, Raymond Hughes of Montevallo, AL; and Sister-in-law, Brenda Hughes of Montevallo, AL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Chessley and Mary Dorothy Hughes; Brother, John Chessley Hughes; Sister, Mary Geraldean Bice; and Grandmother, Mary Jane Varden.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shelby Memory Gardens Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Calera with Rev. Jerry Sherrell and Rev. David Littleton officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, AL.
