Jewel Ealene (Higgins) Cates-Henderson

JEWEL EALENE (HIGGINS) CATES-HENDERSON, age 92 of Calera, passed away on July 30, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Shelby County on October 15, 1931; the daughter of the late Arter Higgins and the late Edna Connell Higgins.

Jewel enjoyed spending time outdoors where she loved to hunt. She was able to enjoy hunting up until her last couple of years of life. She loved all of her family immensely.

She is survived by: Husband, John A. Henderson of Calera; Son, Tommy (Barbara) Wilcox of Calera; Daughter, Darlene (Joey) Littleton of Clanton; Son, Phillip “Tiger” (Teresa) Wilcox of Calera; Stepdaughter, Christine Henderson of Centreville; Stepdaughter, Suzanne Sudsberry of West Blocton; Stepson, J. Aaron (Radonna) Henderson, Jr. of Centreville; 14 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; and Sister, Bonnie Schrader of Shelby.

She is preceded in death by: Son, Floyd Wilcox, Jr.; Daughter, Linda Barrett; Parents, Arter and Edna Higgins; Brothers: Oscar Higgins, Charles Higgins, and J.R. Higgins; Sister, Jean Etress; and an infant sibling.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 6-8pm at the Shelby Memory Gardens Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Calera, AL.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00am from the Shelby Memory Gardens Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Calera with Rev. Jack Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in the Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, AL.
