Johnnie Cleveland McKinney

JOHNNIE CLEVELAND McKINNEY, age 93 of Clanton, passed away on October 19, 2023 at Hatley Healthcare in Clanton, AL. He was born in Chilton County on March 10, 1930; the son of the late Richard P. McKinney and the late Claudie Mae Allen McKinney.

Johnnie honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1948 he began working at Peoples Savings Bank in Clanton where he built an esteemed career in the banking industry that would span 47 years. He retired at the end of his career as bank president. Johnnie was also very actively involved in his community; serving 16 years on the Chilton County Board of Education, was an active member of the Chilton County Hospital Board for 62 years serving until the time of his death, and was also a member of the Chilton County Industrial Development Board. He was also a life-long member of the Clanton Methodist Church.

He is survived by: Wife of 72 years, Sue B. McKinney of Clanton; Son, Paul (Linda) McKinney of Thorsby; Son, Phillip (Vanessa) McKinney of Clanton; Son, David (Kim) McKinney of Clanton; Grandsons: Jacob (Tara) McKinney, Matthew (Hillary) McKinney, and Patrick (Madison) McKinney; Granddaughters: Susan McKinney, Allison Smith, Emily (Jared) Nelson, and Mary Elizabeth McKinney; and Great Grandchildren, Harper McKinney and Emma Nelson.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 2:00pm in Pine Hill Cemetery in Jemison, AL with Rev. Tony Hughes officiating.

There will be no visitation.

The family request no food or flowers. For those wishing, a memorial contribution may be made to the Methodist Childrens Home in Johnnie’s memory.
