JUNE ELISE TUCKER WEST entered the heavenly realm on October 16, 2020. She was 91 years old. She was born April 26, 1929 in Montgomery Alabama to the late Robert M. “Ben” Tucker and the late Myrtle Wilkins Tucker.
June moved to Clanton in the mid-thirties when her father and grandfather bought the Chilton County News. In 1947 she married her high school sweetheart Lelyn who was in the Navy and spent 20 years raising 6 children all over the country with stops in Memphis, Tennessee (4 times); Jacksonville, Florida; Olathe, Kansas; Brunswick , Maine (2 times); Pt Mugu, California, Fountain Valley, California and Montevallo, Alabama before settling back at home in Clanton for over 50 years. June was a stay-at-home Mom until their return to Alabama. She worked as a dental assistant to Dr. Mike Mahan in Montevallo, went back to work for her brother Bobby at the Chilton County News and as an instructor at the Career Technical Center at night school for GED students for many years before her retirement in 1993. June was a member of Clanton First United Methodist Church during her school years and returned her membership there in 1969 when she returned to Clanton. She was loved by all.
Known by many names she is survived by 5 children; Ric and his wife Jacci, Rob and his wife Doris, Sheri Mckee and her husband Rick, Randy and his wife Pam and Nan Witham and her husband Mark; Daughter-in-Law, Andrea West; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leland Ray West, Sr.; Her eldest son Leland Ray West, Jr.; 2 precious granddaughters, Elizabeth and Anna Witham; her brother Bob Tucker and her sister Carolyn Andrews
Visitation will be Saturday evening, October 17th from 6 until 7 at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton. A celebration of life service will take place at Clanton First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2020. Burial will follow at Clanton City Cemetery.
