Lois Juanita (Smith) Payton

LOIS JUANITA (SMITH) PAYTON, age 86 of Jemison, passed away on November 25, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Chilton County on December 4, 1936; the daughter of the late Dewey Smith and the late Annie Mae Ray Smith.

She was employed with the Calera Wal-Mart for 20 years. She loved her family without measure and found immense joy in raising her children and grandchildren. In her free time, she could be found taking in episodes of Law and Order on TV.

She is survived by: Daughter, Lois Raines of Jemison; Son, Joe (Lisa) Payton of Jemison; Daughter, Sue Payton of Fort Payne; 12 Grandchildren; 36 Great Grandchildren; 29 Great-Great Grandchildren; Brother, Bobby Smith of Jemison; Sister, Wanda Green of Calera; and Sister, Shirley Presley of Calera.

She is preceded in death by: Husband, Luther Payton; Inf. Son, Luther Wayne Payton; Parents, Dewey and Annie Mae Smith; and Brothers: Randy Smith, Bill Smith, and Clyde Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. J. Aaron Ellison officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Pates Chapel Baptist Cemetery in Thorsby, AL.
