MAGDALENE “MAGGIE” (PARKER) ADKINS, age 87 of Jemison, passed away on November 19, 2024 at her residence. She was born in Jefferson County, AL on December 19, 1937; the daughter of the late Blumer Gardner Parker and the late Mary Alice Wooten Parker.
Maggie retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education where she worked as a bus driver. She was actively involved in archery in the 1970s. She taught archery at Mt. Brook Middle School and placed second in the world championship archery tournament. She also held state archery championships in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia. She also enjoyed bowling and was involved in a bowling league. Maggie had a distinct love for horses and enjoyed caring for her horses alongside her husband on their beloved farm, Maggie Valley Farms. She was a loving mother to her daughters, grandmother to her grandchildren, and a devoted minister’s wife to husband, Wade. Together they served the Burning Bush Church in Jemison for many years.
She is survived by: Husband, Rev. Ollie Wade Adkins of Jemison; Daughter, Vickie Dunaway of Jemison; Daughter, Rhonda Glass of Jemison; 5 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great Grandchild; and Brother, Ronald Parker of Jemison.
She is preceded in death by: Son, Mickey Adkins; Parents, Blumer and Mary Parker; Sister, Alice Mae Parker; Brother, Henry Parker; and Brother, B.G. Parker.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:00am from the Burning Bush Church in Jemison with Rev. Wade Adkins officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in The Resting Place Cemetery located on the family farm in Jemison, AL.
