ARTHUR MARCELL WAGONER, age 90 of Jemison, passed away on January 3, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Chilton County on August 22, 1935, the son of the late Arthur Matthew Wagoner and the late Susan Jane Robinson Wagoner.
Marcell worked for several years as a foundry worker with ABC Rail, where he was known as a dependable and hardworking man who took pride in an honest day’s work. Beyond his career, he was best remembered for his kindness, gentle demeanor, and quiet, reserved nature. He did not seek attention or recognition, but his calm presence and sincere spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He found great joy and purpose in raising animals on his farm, faithfully caring for everything from goats to even a peacock. The farm was a place of peace for Marcell—a reflection of his love for God’s creation. He especially delighted in welcoming children from the community and church to visit and see the animals, often lighting up as he watched their excitement. What began as a simple labor of love became, in many ways, a private petting zoo that brought happiness and cherished memories to countless families.
Marcell’s love for his family was evident throughout his life, especially the deep affection he had for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for as long as his health permitted and served the church as a deacon, along with fulfilling other roles when needed. His life was a quiet testimony of faith, service, humility, and unwavering devotion to God.
He is survived by his son, Keith (Becky) Wagoner; daughter, Marlaine (Jimmy) Norman; grandson, Kevin (Diana) Wagoner; granddaughter, Heather (Kolby) Culpepper; great-grandsons, Asa Wagoner and Bradley McCain; great-granddaughter, Eva Culpepper; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Wagoner; his parents, Matthew and Susan Wagoner; sisters, Margie Waldrop and Lola Mae Davenport; and his chosen sister, Erazelle Burnett.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Carey Waldrop and Rev. Brandon Price officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery in Jemison, Alabama.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Betty, Barbara, Angie, Tashia, Shalonda, and Janice, who were precious caregivers to both Marcell and Elaine and became part of the family. A special thank you is also extended to the nurses and staff of Enhabit Hospice of Clanton for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 561 County Road 52, Jemison, AL 35085.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
