MARY LUCILLE (PAYTON) BROWNING, age 98 of Calera, passed away on December 31, 2025, in Jemison, Alabama. She was born in Shelby County on May 16, 1927, the daughter of the late Archie Porter Payton and the late Mary Emma Blankenship Payton.
Lucille was a woman of strong and unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a beloved and devoted mother who deeply loved her family and cherished every generation. To many beyond her own family, she served as a loving mother figure, always offering guidance, comfort, and encouragement. Lucille stood firmly for family, church, and love, and her life was a reflection of those values.
She is survived by her children: son, Ricky Evans of Jemison; daughter, Ann Brasher of Jemison; daughter, Fay (Terry) Epperson of Jemison; son, Allen (Teresa) Evans of Thorsby; and daughter, Diane (Ron) Alverson of Calera. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 39 great-great-grandchildren, and her special companion, William Busby of Jemison.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ed Evans and Marcus Browning; her son, Ronny Evans; daughters-in-law, Marsha Evans and Jeannie Evans; son-in-law, Ricky Brasher; grandchildren, Ronny Evans, Doyce Horton, Janet Epperson, and Kevin Evans; and her great-grandchild, Skyler Evans.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton, with Rev. Kevin Blankenship officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Alabama.
