MARY JANET (RIGGS) CLARK, of Thorsby, Alabama, surrounded by her family won the race of life as she entered heaven into the arms of Jesus at her home on August 19th at 4:45 p.m. after an eight-month illness. She was 83 years old.
She was born on September 30, 1939 in Rush, Kentucky to Samuel Hardin Riggs and Aleene Gabbert Riggs. She met and married William Henry Clark in Kentucky. They were married for 50 years until his death in 2012. In 1967 They moved to Alabama to raise their family.
Mrs. Clark was a Cosmetologist for 62 years. Her home salon was known to many in Chilton County. She served on the Town of Thorsby Planning and Zoning Board. She was known for her wonderful cooking, and formerly owned MarJos restaurant in Clanton. Mary was a loving person who accepted everyone for who they are. She was mom to many and always had a place at her table and opened her home to many through the years. She deeply loved all of her family and her greatest joy was spending time with all of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Aleen Riggs; Her husband, William Henry Clark; Her brothers, Ronnie Riggs, Eddie Riggs, Big Sam Riggs; and a Sister: Evelyn Ann Riggs.
She is survived by her loving sisters: Donna Griffith of Rush, Kentucky, Nancy Claxon (Morton) of Thorsby, AL.; Special Sister-in-laws, Sue Clark of Rockholds, Kentucky, and Pat Riggs of Columbus, Ohio.
Her Children: Son, Bill Clark of Jemison (Angie), Daughter, Althea Minor (Tim) of Thorsby.
She was lovingly known as “Nanny” to her Grandchildren and Great grandchildren:
Her grandchildren: Will Clark of Thorsby (Emily); Drew Minor of Thorsby (Hollie), Matthew Clark of Jemison, Addison Minor Carroll (Dylan) of Thorsby.
Her Great Granddaughters: Ellie Clark, Everly Clark, Rylan Clark, and her new great grandson, Casen Minor. She was loved by Her many special nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend a special thanks to sitters who became like family, Kathy Johnson, Pat Glenn, Doris White, and Joyce Wheeler and her special niece Robin Moses who lovingly helped care for her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 5-7pm at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:00am from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Hilyer officiating.
Burial will follow in the Thorsby Memorial Cemetery in Thorsby, AL.
