Matthew DeWayne Skelton

MATTHEW DEWAYNE SKELTON, age 16 of Jemison, passed away on August 18, 2021 at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham, AL following a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Ventura, California on June 19, 2005; the son of Eusevio Sanchez, Jr. and Destinie Lynn Skelton.

Matthew was a student at Jemison High School, where he was a member of the FFA and manger of the Jemison Panthers Football team. He was a social person who loved staying in contact with his friends and sending text messages. He loved to be involved in things going on and will be remembered for his unique accents that he could come up with. He enjoyed going fishing where he always seemed to best those he went with. Matthew was a beacon of hope and light to so many with his humble, caring, and servants’ attitude. He was a God-fearing young man who was a member of Iglesia Centro Pentecostal Church in Pelham, AL. Matthew will be remembered for his great style, but most of all he will be remembered as a great son, brother, and friend to so many.

He is survived by: Mother, Destinie Skelton of Jemison; Father, Eusevio (Christina) Sanchez of Belton, TX; Guardians, Timothy and Melinda Mattie of Jemison; Siblings: Genesis Mattie, Michael Skelton, Samual Bispham, Lillian Bispham, Bianca Sanchez, Megan Sanchez, Miracle Sanchez, Kobe Sanchez, Jaece Sanchez, Shawn Mattie, Jonathan Mattie, Sarah Mattie, Seth Mattie, David Mattie, Shannon Mattie, and Katie Mattie; Grandmother, Peggy Albaugh of Jemison; Grandfather, Mike Skelton of Jemison; Grandparents, Frank and Anita Quintanilla of Jemison; Grandparents, Bob and Beth Stevens of Jemison; Grandmother, Ester Martinez of Victoria, TX; Grandmother, Edna Tucker of Fultondale; and his beloved pets, Killer and Miya.

Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 2:00pm from the Jemison First Baptist Church with Rev. Elmer Aquino officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family request that those in attendance wear Matthew’s favorite color, pink, to the service.

Members of the Jemison High School Football team and other classmates will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family request in lieu of flowers, please contribute to a memorial account in Matthew’s name at Marion Bank and Trust in Jemison or Clanton.
