Mattie Lou (Lovelady) Abbott, age 71, of Maplesville, Alabama, passed away suddenly on March 29, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Chilton County on June 11, 1954, the daughter of the late James Junior Lovelady and the late Jane Elizabeth Collier Lovelady.
Mattie faithfully served her community for over 24 years with the United States Postal Service at the Maplesville Post Office. As a rural carrier, she took great pride in her work and found genuine joy in the relationships she built along her route. Her dedication, reliability, and friendly spirit made her a familiar and beloved presence to many.
Above all, Mattie’s life was centered around her family. She found her greatest happiness in being surrounded by those she loved, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Raymond Abbott of Maplesville; her children, Michael Abbott of Maplesville, Cindy Morris of Maplesville, Shorty “Cecil” Abbott of Maplesville, and Erica Marie Abbott of Tuscaloosa; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her brothers, James “Buster” Lovelady of Maplesville, William “Red” Lovelady of Maplesville, and Tommy Lovelady of Limestone, Tennessee; along with a host of extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ann Abbott; her sons, Raymond Abbott, Jerry Abbott, and Steven Nichols; her parents, James Junior and Jane Lovelady; her sisters, Elizabeth Jane Nichols and Betty Frances Lovelady; and her brother, Jonathan Lovelady.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Roland Hazel and Rev. Joey Green officiating.
Interment will follow in Pilgrim Rest Baptist Cemetery in Plantersville, Alabama.
Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Ellison Memorial Funeral Home of Clanton, Alabama.
