Michael Murr Obituary

MICHAEL RAY MURR, age 61 of Clanton, passed away on April 12, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Chilton County, AL on December 29, 1963; the son of the late Lee Arthur Murr and Barbara Jean Simerly.

To know Mike was to love him. Known to his family and friends simply as Mike, he was the kind of person who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. With a heart full of love and a spirit of generosity, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Mike had a deep love for his family, which he showed in both big ways and small, everyday acts of kindness. He had a passion for music and found great joy in playing the guitar and singing. His smile could light up a room, and his laughter was contagious — he loved to joke, cut up, and bring joy wherever he went.

Mike never met a stranger. His natural charm and easygoing nature meant he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone — and keep it going until he talked your ears off.

He was a hard worker with a strong work ethic, spending years as a truck driver, known on the road by his CB handle “Weekend Warrior.” Later, he worked as a loader operator at Vulcan Materials, where he was affectionately known as “M&M.” In both careers, he earned the respect of his peers through his dedication and skill.

In his spare time on weekends, before the local skating rink closed down, Mike worked there on Friday and Saturday nights. Alongside Patricia Scruggs Cleckley, he devoted those evenings to being a positive influence on the youth in the community. Through his kindness, humor, and genuine care, he touched many lives and left a lasting impact on those he mentored.

Mike was deeply loved by many, and his legacy lives on in the countless hearts he inspired and uplifted. His presence was a gift, and his absence leaves a space that can never be filled.

He is survived by: Wife, lora Murr; Son, James (Tabitha) Murr; Daughter, Brandi Murr; Grandchildren: Johnny Murr, Kyliegh Murr, Marlayna Below, Logan Below, Anakin Murr, and Bruce Murr; Mother, Barbara Simerly; Stepmother, Geraldine Murr; Brother, Philip Murr; Brother, Rex (Emily) Murr; Nephew, Troy (Kimberly) Murr; Aunt, Louise Murr; and a host of cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by: Granddaughter, Shauni Lache Murr; Father, Lee Arthur Murr; Paternal Grandparents, Lee Arthur and Lela Murr; Maternal Grandparents, Harry and Bessie Simerly; Nephew, Philip Lee Murr, Jr.; and Great Nephew, Ashton Lee Murr.
