MICHAEL THOMAS “MIKE” DEMPSEY, 60, of Calera, Alabama suddenly left this world on Monday,
November 27, 2023; he is now with the Lord. Mike was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on
August 21, 1963, to Rey and Marion (deceased) Dempsey.
As a child, Mike liked to ice skate and played on an ice hockey team. Mike enjoyed swimming
on a local team and specialized in the backstroke. He attended Carbondale Community High
School (Illinois) and rode his motorcycle whenever possible. After high school, he worked at
Pizza Inn and was promoted to manager, where he met the love of his life Becky, and they
eventually married on November 12, 1981.
Mike was successful in the service industry for many years. At one point, he worked as a district
manager for Krystal, and he was the bar manager at Outback Steakhouse in Hoover, Alabama for
several years. Then he retired from the service industry to drive for Uber and Lyft. He enjoyed
working for himself and setting his own hours.
Mike had a gentle heart and kind spirit. He was funny, quick-witted, a good storyteller, and a
great cook. He hosted many holiday/family gatherings and wanted everyone to have fun and be
comfortable in his home. Mike loved his family. He was very proud of his kids and his
grandchildren. He wanted to be a good father and Pawpaw to them . . . and he was.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Rebecca (Jenkins) Dempsey; five children --
Ashley (Shay) Claunch, Lauren Dempsey, Michael Dempsey II, Erin Mahan, Patrick (Tiffany)
Dempsey; eight grandchildren -- Abigail Dempsey-Aslinger; Nolan Aslinger; Desi, Scarlett,
Violet, and Farrah Mahan; Ever Dempsey, Sterling Dempsey (born November 29, 2023); father
Rey (Annie) Dempsey; three sisters -- Tonya Dempsey, Terrie Francescon, Jodi (Chris) Vaughn,
and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Dempsey, his
son-in-law, Phillip Mahan, and his grandson, Jameson Mahan.
He was very loved and will be missed. Mike is now in heaven with Jesus, walking on streets of
gold.
