Mildred Louise (Mims) Baker, age 85, lost her battle with cancer and passed peacefully into Jesus’ arms on Oct. 29, 2021 at 9:15 pm. Mildred was born on June 16, 1936, to the late Howard Lee and Mary Kathryn (Bates) Mims.
Born in Talladega County, Mildred lived most of her life as a resident of Chilton County, Alabama. Mildred’s passion in life was caring for her family. The oldest of 10 siblings, Mildred was very active in raising her siblings and even helped her father with his pulpwood business to help the family. After graduating from Verbena High School, Mildred married the late Carl Robinson and they started a family of their own. She raised her three sons, James Carl, Eugene, and Tim teaching them life lessons making them into the men they are today. An avid gardener, she took pride in her many roses and flowers that were the envy of many. She also enjoyed cooking, especially fresh vegetables from the garden.Mildred was an active member of Oak Grove Church of God, sang in the choir, helped with plays for children’s services and Young People’s Endeavour ministries on Saturday evenings. Mildred had two careers outside the home. She worked for Keystone Metal Molding for 13 years then as a home health aide for 17 years. She discovered that she had a special talent for taking care of people and was honored as the 2002 Home Attendant of the Year. She was selected again in 2003 but, in her usual concern for others, asked that someone else be given the award to lift them up. Mildred was known for her kindness, compassion, and generosity; she holds a very special place in our hearts and she will be greatly missed.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Lee and Kathryn Bates Mims, sister Ann Banks, brother Jesse Lee Mims, the father of her children Carl Robinson, and three infant grandchildren Jamie, Joseph, and Jennifer Robinson. She is survived by her three children, James Carl (Lisa), Eugene (Marie), and Timothy Robinson, two grandsons Anthony (Connie) Robinson and Patrick Denham, a great-grandchild Remington Robinson, step-daughter Stephanie Wise, five siblings June Rains, Kate (Steve) Thetford, Joyce Wheeler, Melba Jean McDaniel, Paul (Julia) Mims, Kathy (Randy) Hinton, and Donald (Sharon) Mims, her beloved cats Kitty and Cosmo, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
