PATTY ANN (LAYTON) HICKS of Jemison, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, at UAB Palliative Care in Birmingham. She was 55 years old.
Born in Cheverly, Maryland, on January 9, 1970, Patty was the beloved daughter of the late Roger Van Layton and the late Alice Mary Suite Layton. She spent more than two decades serving her community as a dedicated cashier at Jack's Restaurant in Jemison, where her friendly smile and kind heart left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.
Patty found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved traveling to the beach and the Smoky Mountains, and she never passed up a good trip to the casino. Fishing was a favorite pastime—not so much for the catch, but for the memories made with loved ones. Above all, Patty cherished time spent with her family, especially her two grandsons, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dwayne Hicks of Jemison; her sons, Cheyenne (Amanda) Layton of Jasper and Adam (Kaylee) Hicks of Jemison; and her grandsons, Kyler Hicks and Kolsyn Hicks, both of Jemison. Patty also leaves behind her siblings: Marshall Layton of St. Clair County, John (Laura) Layton of Talladega, and Shirley Layton of Alexander City.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. J. Aaron Ellison officiating.
She will be laid to rest at Rocky Mount Community Cemetery in Jemison, Alabama.
Patty’s warmth, humor, and unwavering love for her family will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
