Paul Bavar Obituary

Paul Edward Bavar, age 90 of Clanton, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 3, 2026, surrounded by the land and community he so dearly loved. Born in Chilton County on January 11, 1936, he was the son of the late George W. “Bill” Bavar and the late Alphia Cleo Ratliff Bavar.

A proud patriot, Paul honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his discharge, he returned home to Chilton County, answering a different but equally meaningful call—to work the soil and steward the land that had been entrusted to him. As a lifelong farmer, Paul became well known throughout the region for raising the beloved Chilton County peaches, a labor that reflected both his dedication and the quiet pride he took in feeding his community.

Paul’s life was marked not only by hard work, but by a deep and abiding commitment to serving others. He faithfully served for many years as a Chilton County Sheriff’s Reserve and was a founding member of the Chilton County Rescue Squad in 1955. His heart for service continued through his lifetime membership with the Fairview Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, where he was honored as Chilton County Firefighter of the Year—a testament to his courage, dependability, and servant’s spirit.

He was a familiar and comforting presence throughout the community—often found checking on neighbors, lending a helping hand, or sharing a conversation that left folks better than he found them. Paul loved his country, but he lived out that love most clearly in the way he cared for the people right here at home.

He is survived by his daughters, Regina (Keith) Underwood of Clanton and Rebecca (Hector) Aguilar of Anahuac, TX; grandchildren, Layne (Christopher) Plaisance, Nathan Prince, and Dustin (Amber) Gore; nine great-grandchildren; along with a host of extended family members and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Bavar; his parents, Bill and Alphia Bavar; his brother, Charles Bavar; and his sister, Hazel Smith.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.

Burial with military honors will follow at Antioch Methodist Cemetery in Maplesville, Alabama.

The family finds comfort in knowing that Paul’s life was well lived—rooted in faith, grounded in service, and bearing fruit that will continue to bless generations to come.
