Rev. Mahlon Felkins, Jr. Obituary

REV. MAHLON SCOTT FELKINS, JR., age 87 of Clanton, passed away on March 8, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Birmingham, AL on July 4, 1937; the son of the late Mahlon Scott Felkins, SR. and the late Una Magnolia Pepper Felkins.

Mahlon married his beloved wife, Brenda Leigh Felkins on September 15, 1956 in Aberdeen, MS. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Birmingham Southern College in 1965. He became a deacon in the United Methodist church in 1966 and then an elder in 1968. He graduated from Emory University in 1968 with a Master of Divinity Degree. Mahlon would go on to pastor several churches in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church. He obtained his Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1993 from Columbia Theological Seminary. Outside of the ministry he, along with his late wife Brenda, was known for owning and operating Leigh’s Fish Camp located on Lay Lake in northern Chilton County.  

He is survived by: Daughter, Pamela Felkins Colbert of Vestavia; Son, Mahlon Scott (Selena) Felkins III of Sylacauga; Daughter, Laurie (Ray) Vollenweider of Hoover; Grandchildren: Major Adam Colbert, Ansley Grace Felkins Johnston, John Houston Felkins, Marc Austen Vollenweider, and Aaron Matthew Vollenweider; and Great Grandchildren: Addie Colbert, Roland Colbert, Braden Johnston, Alice Johnston, Eleanor Vollenweider, Ivy Vollenweider, Kathryn Vollenweider, Margaret Vollenweider, and Miles Vollenweider.

He is preceded in death by: Wife, Brenda Leigh Felkins; Parents, Mahlon Scott Felkins, Sr. and Una Magnolia Pepper Felkins; Brother, Johnny William Felkins; Brother, Perry Garrett Felkins; Sister, Sandra Felkins Griffin; and Sister, Mary Ethal Felkins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton with Rev. John Drawhorn officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton, AL.
