Richard Hurst Obituary

RICHARD MARTIN HURST, age 72 of Clanton, passed away on October 29, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Centerville, Iowa on August 1, 1951; the son of the late Merlin Dean Hurst and the late Suzanne Martin Hurst.

Richard worked in the engineering field of Cable TV for over 25 years and moved to the Clanton area 28 years ago where he worked for a mapping and design company. He then started his own mapping business; mapping cable and telephone systems around the East Coast. In 2004 he and his wife opened Pet Agrees Grooming and Boarding.

Richard was a member of Lime Springs Methodist Church in Clanton. He received his certificate in Ministry in 2013 and occasionally would officiate weddings and funerals. He was also a member of Living Waters Emmaus Community, often working spiritual retreats for young people and adults.

He is survived by: Wife, Mary Diamond Hurst of Clanton; Son, Clint R. Hurst (Tina) of Trenton, FL; Son, Shane D. Hurst (Ashley) of Rossville, GA; Son, Mark Tollett (Brenda) of Clanton; Daughter, Stacy Johnson (Lee) of Rossville, GA; Sister, Vicki D. Eller (Benard) of Chattanooga, TN; and Numerous Grandchildren, Nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by: Parents, Merlin and Suzanne Hurst; Sister, Marilyn K. Umholtz; and Sister, Cynthia L. Bingham.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
