Ricky Harold Smitherman

RICKY HAROLD SMITHERMAN, age 71 of Clanton, passed away on October 31, 2025 at Baptist Health-Shelby Hospital in Alabaster, AL. He was born in Chilton County on January 20, 1954, the son of the late Winston Lucas and the late Pauline Smitherman Lucas.

Ricky worked as a carpenter and framer for over 25 years in residential construction, a job he dearly loved and took great pride in. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady hands, and the craftsmanship he poured into every home he touched. Ricky enjoyed the simple things in life, especially riding motorcycles and tinkering with Volkswagens, always finding joy in turning a wrench or taking a ride down a backroad. He appreciated good conversation and could often be found laughing and sharing stories with friends and family. Above all, he cherished his loved ones and the time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and kept a smile on his face.

He is survived by his daughter, Connie Smitherman of Decatur; son, Ricky (Elizabeth) Smitherman of Clanton; grandchildren: Vinson (Emily) McCary, Carley Bates, Haley Smitherman, Alanca (Kelby) Lewis, Aiden Smitherman, Maddie Gingo, and Cora Gingo; great-grandchildren, Braxton McCary and Makenzie McCary; sisters, Linda (Doug) Price of Montevallo, Eunice (Verton) Morris of Montevallo, and Mona Gail (Alford) Posey of Montevallo; and brother, Winston Dale (Amy) Lucas of Clanton.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Paulette Smitherman; parents, Winston and Pauline Lucas; and brother, Bubba Lucas.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Jemison, AL.

 A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Kelvin Smitherman officiating.

 Burial will follow in the New Hope Community Cemetery in Jemison, AL.
