Robert Earl Hilyer

ROBERT EARL HILYER, age 84 of the Mineral Springs Community in Jemison, passed away on April 19, 2023 at his residence. HE was born in Chilton County on November 30, 1938; the son of the late John Fonza Hilyer and the late Gretchen Lula Cofer Hilyer.

Robert retired as a supervisor with South Central Bell, that would later become AT&T, with over 40 years of service. He was instrumental in helping the company in the development of internet services that would change the way we would live our lives. He loved sports and was an avid Auburn football fan; attending many games over the years. He enjoyed spending time farming and gardening where he would grow some of the best tomatoes around. He loved to keep his home and property impeccably maintained, while keeping an interest in tractors and equipment. Robert was a man who you knew where he stood on issues. He was a man of great faith and was a faithful member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church for many years. He loved to sing in the church choir and had a deep love for gospel music. He will be best remembered by family for the love he showed them and how he provided for them throughout his life.

He is survived by: Wife of nearly 63 years, Irene Hilyer of Jemison; Daughter, Cindy (Tommy) Hurst of Jemison; Son, Todd (Misti) Hilyer of Miramar Beach, FL; Daughter, Kris Rawson of Trinity, FL; Grandchildren: John Brandon Hilyer, Dalton (Courtney) Bradford, Shelbi Hilyer, Abby Rawson, and Gracie Hurst; Great Grandsons, Corbin and Camden Bradford; Sister, Betty Headley of Montgomery; Sister, Bernice (Bill) Weatherly of Clanton; Sister, Brenda Rhodes of Clanton; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by: Daughter, Pamela Gaye Hilyer; Parents, Fonza and Lula Hilyer; Brothers: Jimmy C. Hilyer, Raymond Hilyer, and James Hilyer; and Sisters, Frances Gore and Mary Helen Coker.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 5-8pm at Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Clanton.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 2:00pm from Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Matt Hilyer, Rev. Jason Green, and Rev. Doug West officiating.

The body will be in state one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Union Grove Community Cemetery in Jemison, AL.

Final care and arrangements entrusted to the Ellison Memorial Funeral Home of Clanton, AL.
