Robert Waldrop Keller, Jr.

ROBERT WALDROP KELLER, JR., age 67 of Clanton, passed away on September 24, 2025 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. He was born in Birmingham, AL on April 21, 1958; the son of the late Welton E. Smith and the late Diane Bearden Smith.

Robert devoted his life and career to law enforcement, serving many years as a deputy with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department. Through his service he touched many hearts and lives—whether it was members of the public, coworkers, or even inmates he encountered along the way. He was highly respected for his dedication, integrity, and compassion.

He was also a man of quiet and steadfast faith, which guided him throughout his life both personally and professionally. Robert loved the outdoors and found peace in God’s creation. He especially enjoyed bicycling the trails at Oak Mountain State Park and taking long motorcycle rides on the open road. Music was his therapy, and he found comfort in playing the guitar, often lifting his own spirit and that of those around him through song.

He is survived by his daughters: Melissa (Paul Tyler) Mims of Clanton and Melanie Diane (Octavius) Keller of Clanton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Simmons of Montevallo; and brothers, Dale Smith of Hoover and Berry Smith of Hoover.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Keller.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at New Life Community Church in Clanton with Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon and Rev. Andy Mims officiating. Law enforcement honors will be rendered by the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard.
