Ronnie Horton Obituary

RONNIE JUNIOR HORTON, age 75 of Calera, passed away on September 1, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Bessemer, AL on June 26, 1949; the son of the late Collie Horton and the late Willie Lee Sykes Horton.

Ron was a graduate of the University of Montevallo where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He honorably served his country in the Alabama Army National Guard for 6 years. He married his beloved wife, Debra Comer in 1974. Later that year they welcomed their first daughter, Paige, and their second daughter, Candace, followed in 1978. Ron was employed with Pullman Standard for 6 years then went on to a 38-year career with Lafarge where he was a project manager. Away from work he had a love and a passion for music. He was a classical guitarist and loved to sing. He was a member of Calera Baptist Church for 50 years where he served as church treasurer for a few years and served as a deacon for many years. He also lent his musical ability and talents to the church; singing in the adult choir and was a member of the church praise team. He adored his two granddaughters and spending time with them and his family. He will be remembered for the love that he held for his church and his family.

He is survived by: Wife, Debra Comer Horton of Calera; Daughter, Paige (Sean) Kendrick of Calera; Daughter, Candace (Daniel) Cleckley of Clanton; Granddaughter, Mia Kendrick of Calera; Granddaughter, Danica Cleckley of Clanton; and Sister, Jo Ann Horton of Richmond, VA.

He is preceded in death by: Parents, Collie and Willie Lee Horton.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 6:30pm from Calera Baptist Church with Bro. Sean Kendrick and Rev. Jason Jarvis officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

A family committal service will be held in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, AL.

The family request in lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the Ronnie Horton Memorial Fund at any Central State Bank branch to provide for the future education of Ron’s granddaughters.
