Ruth Cofer Obituary

Ruth (Patterson) Cofer, of Jemison, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on her 94th birthday, April 30, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by the comfort of the place she loved. Born in Chilton County on April 30, 1932, she was the cherished daughter of the late Henry Grady Patterson and the late Mamie Estelle Rhodes Patterson.

Mrs. Cofer was a hardworking woman who spent many years as a press operator at the former Keystone in Clanton. Yet, her true joy was found at home—tending to her yards, nurturing her flowers, and working faithfully in her garden. She especially took pride in growing her vegetables, with her tomatoes being a favorite of many who knew her.

Her life was a quiet testimony of faith, rooted deeply in her love for the Lord Jesus Christ. She found great joy in worship and fellowship at Mt. Springs Church in Clanton, where she remained a devoted member. Her faith guided her life, and she lived it out daily through kindness, humility, and love.

Above all, Ruth will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose heart was fullest when surrounded by those she loved. She treasured every visit, every hug, and every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Windell (Debbie) Cofer of Jemison; daughter, June (Bobby) Collins of Thorsby; grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Mims, Ginger (Luke) Bell, Clay (Jessica) Collins, and Wendy (Tim) Fortner; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were blessed by her life.

She is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, James Cofer; her daughter, Mary Patterson; her parents; and her brothers, Tommy Patterson, Jimmy Patterson, and Joe Patterson.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Collins officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Maplesville, Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Mountain Springs Church in Clanton, in honor of Ruth’s giving spirit and faithful heart.

Final care and arrangements are entrusted to Ellison Memorial Funeral Home of Clanton, Alabama.
