Sara Nell (Williams) Benson

Sara W. Benson, age 95 of Thorsby, AL passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Hatley Health Care in Clanton, AL.

Sara was born on July 1, 1930 in Chilton County to the late Horace C Williams, Sr. and the late Anna Lewis Williams.

She is survived by her Sons, Davy (Shelia) Benson of Thorsby, Alabama and Stephen (Torey) Benson of Atlanta, Georgia; Grandson’s, Chase (Catrina) Benson, Brett (Paula) Benson and Trent (Allison) Benson. Great-Granddaughter’s, Hannah Benson, Kourtney Benson, Lily Benson, Leanna Benson and Brynn Benson. Along with a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved Husband, Jimmy R. Benson; Grandson, Tyler Benson; Granddaughter, Taylor Benson; Sister’s, Eloise W. Mims and Dot Williams; and Brother Horace C Williams, Jr.

She graduated from Thorsby Institute in 1948. She then started working at The Bank of Thorsby. She worked for almost 50 years in the bank, although the name changed several times. She retired from Regions Bank in 1995. In 1993 she was chosen as Woman of the year in Chilton County. After retirement she traveled across the United States and parts of Europe with Chilton Travel Club.

She was above all a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved the time she spent with them, especially the holidays. She loved to decorate for Christmas and have her Sunday school class visit. She loved the Lord and Thorsby First Baptist Church. She spent countless hours reading her Bible.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday June 27, 2026, at Thorsby Memorial Cemetery in Thorsby, AL with Rev. Mark Hodges officiating.
