TED WAYNE WELLS, age 86, of Jemison, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. Born in Shelby County on November 30, 1939, he was the son of the late Cecil Ralph Wells and the late Myrtle Willis Wells.
Ted devoted many years of his life working as a heavy equipment operator with local cement and lime plants, where he was known for his strong work ethic and steady dedication. Outside of work, he found his greatest joy in the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, Ted had a particular passion for traditional archery. He was widely respected for his skill and participated in numerous exhibition shoots, helping raise funds for Children's of Alabama and Camp Smile-A-Mile, causes that were close to his heart.
He is survived by his son, Scotty (Sharee) Wells of Jemison; daughter, Kelli Wells of Clanton; grandchildren, Dakota (Markie) Harris of Hoover, Kasi (Gurbans) Wells Deol of Madison, Matt Wightman of Jemison, and Chris Wightman of Millbrook; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Wightman of Millbrook, Hugo Harris of Hoover, and Ryker Booke of Oxford.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Sue Wells; his parents, Cecil and Myrtle Wells; and his brothers, John Wells and Phillip Wells.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. from the Shelby Memory Gardens Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home in Calera, with Rev. Terry Harris and Rev. Dakota Harris officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Alabama.
Ted will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for the outdoors, and the deep pride he took in his family. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and devotion will live on in all who knew and loved him.
