VERA NELL (CHANDLER) DRIVER, age 73, of Clanton, passed away on July 17, 2025, at Arlington Health and Rehabilitation in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born in Chilton County on May 18, 1952, the daughter of the late Edward Lee Chandler and the late Dorothy Nell Chandler.
Vera had a kind and generous heart, and her quiet presence left a meaningful impact on those around her. She found joy in the simple things—reading a good book, browsing through yard sales, or exploring thrift stores for hidden treasures. She was also an excellent cook, known for preparing comforting meals that brought people together. Her kitchen was a place of love, where recipes were shared and memories were made. Though she never had children of her own, she poured her heart into the lives of those she helped raise, care for, and encourage. Her home was often a place of comfort, laughter, and open arms. Many children—and even adults—who passed through her life affectionately called her “Aunt Vera,” a name that symbolized the love, warmth, and gentle guidance she freely gave.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ray Driver of Clanton; sister-in-law, Kathy Driver of Verbena; nieces, Denise Driver and Sherry Driver, both of Verbena; nephew, Tim Chandler of Thorsby; seven great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Dot Chandler; sister, Rose Marie Chandler; and brother, Julius Chandler.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Ellison Memorial Funeral Home, with Rev. Derrell Jones officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Cane Creek Baptist Cemetery in Clanton, Alabama.
