Verbon Wayne Smitherman

VERBON WAYNE SMITHERMAN, age 67 of Maplesville, passed away on February 12, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Chilton County on May 15, 1956; the son of the late Houston Ed Smitherman and the late Martha Gertrude Mathis Smitherman.

He was a former iron worker with Ironworkers Local 92. Verbon was the baby of 12 siblings who were raised on rural farm life. In his younger years he loved to drag race. He also enjoyed the outdoors where he would spend time hunting and fishing. He was an avid Alabama Football fan. He will be remembered as a good-hearted person.

He is survived by: Son, Ryan Christopher Smitherman of Maplesville; Grandson, Reid Smitherman of Maplesville; Former Spouse, Tammy Smitherman of Maplesville; Brother, Tony Smitherman of Jemison; Brother, Billy (Marie) Smitherman of Danielsville, GA; Sister, Patricia Ann Payne of Maplesville; Brother, Houston Smitherman, Jr. of Maplesville; Sister, Betty Jo (Larry) Jones of Tuscaloosa; Brother, Bobby Lynn (Edna) Smitherman of Tuscaloosa; and Brother, Roger (Cindy) Smitherman of Centreville.

He is preceded in death by: Parents, Houston and Martha Smitherman; Sister, Mary Nell Smitherman; Brother, Douglas Smitherman; Sister, Dorothy Cooper; and Brother, Charles William Smitherman.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 2:00pm from Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Reynolds officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery in Randolph, AL.
